Jess Majekodunmi: 'Which Way Is Up: Shaping Better Collaborations'
We can’t solve the world’s most pressing challenges alone. From the climate crisis to the effects of social inequality, the challenges facing us are as urgent as they are immense. It takes organisations working together to make a difference. Such collaborations are always complex, constantly evolving and tricky to sustain. What makes some collaborations flourish and others falter? In this talk, Jess Majekodunmi will unpack the deeply human factors and behind-the-scenes mechanisms that are instrumental in setting up and running effective collaborations.

Panel Discussion - Under The Radar - Unseen & Unheard
Moderator: Derek O'Connor
Panel Guests: Steve Fanagan, Ed Bruce, Jill Beecher, Colm Mac Con Iomaire
Audiences need creative visionaries to deliver projects that enthral, excite and entertain. However, the creative sector is predominantly built on the contribution of creatives who go under the radar - creatives who support others to ensure the project is successfully delivered. What's it like being a creative collaborator who supports others to achieve their creative vision? How can creatives move seamlessly from focusing on their own passion projects to being a team player away from the spotlight? To what extent can creatives who work under the radar still influence the direction of creative projects? And how do we support new unseen/unheard creatives to emerge into the light?

How do we create the space for collaboration that recognizes the shared knowledge that different people and communities bring to the work and create the space for genuine co-curation. Lynn Scarff will discuss a few case studies relating to work both within the National Musuem of Ireland and other institutions that speak to the challenges and learnings of the impact of hierrchies on a collaborative process.

Panel Discussion - Risk/Reward & The Value Of Failure
Moderator: Aoife Barry
Panel Guests: Anna Nolan, Dylan Haskins, Lynn Scarff, Jennifer Jennings, Felispeaks
Being creative is often about taking risks, coming up with ideas and trying new things. Taking risks can lead to rewards but can also lead to failure. But what does failure mean to creatives? And can failure ultimately be a stepping stone to success? How should creatives deal with failure? How does failure affect collaboration? Is being creative worth the risk of failure? Should creatives take more risks? And should those who support and fund creatives take more risks?

Panel Discussion - Worldbuilding
Moderator: Rick O'Shea
Panel Guests: Karen Palmer, Pat Conran, Lawrence Schick, Craig Stuart Garfinkle
Creating interesting and engaging worlds can be critical to the success and endurance of a creator's vision and a creative project. Whether it's the world of a game or a film or a TV show, or whether it's the world creatives build around their own creative output generally, an interesting and evocative world can help creative projects stand out and be successful. Characters, Sequels, Prequels, Adaptations, and Spin Offs only exist because a world has been built to sustain them. But how do you build a new world? What makes a world stand out? How does collaboration help to build the world of a creative project?
